This is another study using soft pastels and pastel pencils.

New work using Pastels

Today I finished a new work using pastels. This is the portrait of José Saramago, the famous Nobel prize winner in literature from Portugal. I love him becouse of his ideas and the way of writing. I use soft pastels and pastel pencils to work on details. Pastels is something new for me, so this was kind of a challenge.

New Studies using pastels.

This period I'm working with pastels. This medium was very difficult for me and very messy to work with. I prefer oil pastels. Soft or chalk pastels are very challenging and hard pastels are very expensive. Any way I found that fixing in regular intervals or after finishing a part, fixing can help go on. We will see.

Ο φίλος και καλός συνάδελφος Μάνος αποστρατεύτηκε απ' τις τάξεις του ΠΝ. Σε ένδειξη της αγάπης που του έχω ετοίμασα το έργο αυτό για να θυμάται πάντα την άψογη συνεργασία που ειχαμε όλα αυτά τα χρόνια στην υπηρεσία. Με τον Μάνο περάσαμε πολλά.  Αγωνίες, λύπες, απογοητεύσεις. Αλλά και χαρά, περηφάνια για αυτά που επιτύχαμε, πολλές μικρές ευτυχισμένες χαρές όταν βλέπαμε πως η δουλειά μας είχε αποτέλεσμα.
Να είσαι πάντα καλά και δημιουργικός όπως πάντα.

This is a gift for my friend and good colleague Manos for his retirement from Navy. I wish him good luck and be always healthy and creative.

Block Studies

Block studies are very important  to understand color in bright sunlight or high saturation, in shadows or overcast conditions. I'm planing to make at least 100 in the next 6 months.

Η σπουδή χρωμάτων με χρήση κύβων είναι μια πολύ χρήσιμη δραστηριότητα τόσο σε σύνθεση κάτω απ' τον ήλιο όσο και σε σκιά. Θα πρέπει να κάνω τουλάχιστον 100 κομμάτια τους επόμενους 6 μήνες.

Outdoor color studies

Today I started my outdoor color studies. In order to understand to "read" color values I have to make at least 400 work studies for the next 6 months...

Σήμερα ξεκίνησα τις μελέτες χρώματος στην ύπεθρο. Σκοπός είναι να μάθω να "βλέπω" σωστά τα χρώματα μέσα απ τη σπουδή τουλάχιστον 400 έργων τους επόμενους 6 μήνες...

Paros fields

Another piece of this summer series. This is the spectacular view of Paros fields as seen from little village Aspra Spitia at the south part of the Island.

Άλλο ένα έργο της καλοκαιρινής σειράς. Αυτή η καταπληκτική θέα των χωραφιών της Πάρου είναι όπως την είδα απ' το χωριό Άσπρα Σπίτια στην νότια πλευρά του νησιού.

Chapel in Pyrgi

This is the chapel in Pyrgi on Paros Island. Pyrgi is a small peninsula with some wonderful houses on it, but at the left side is this wonderful traditional little church. I was amazed when I shaw it for a first time, so I decided to paint it "ala prima".

Looking at the sea

This is the first of a series I made during my vacations this summer in Paros. This boy looking at the see searching and waiting... The sea is calm although small waves come and go...

Moonlight

Wonderful view of a summer full moon and moonlight. The French call it "the road to love". I made a series with the same subject because everybody love's it and want to heave one. In this piece i love most the reflexions of the light on sea and the islands.

Ανακάλυψα πρόσφατα το RedBubble. Το site αυτό παρέχει υποστήριξη σε καλυτέχνες για την προβολή της εργασίας τους μέσα απ' τον ιστό, αλλά και την προώθηση πωλήσεων έργων τέχνης. Οι δυνατότητες περιλαμβάνουν, κάρτες, καρτ-ποστάλ, αφίσες, ακόμα και εκτύπωση σε καμβά. Νομίζω πως είναι κάτι που θα πρέπει να δοκιμάσω.
